Professional Dhol Players
A “dhol player” refers to a musician who plays the traditional Indian drum known as the “dhol” during the baraat. The dhol is a double-headed drum, typically made of wood with leather drum heads on both sides. It is widely used in various forms of traditional and folk music in India, especially in the Punjab region.
The dhol is a key symbol of Punjabi cultural heritage. It is deeply embedded in the social fabric of Punjab and is associated with many traditional events and celebrations, including weddings, festivals, harvest celebrations like Baisakhi, and religious gatherings.
The Dhol player leads the Baraat procession, playing the Dhol and setting the pace for the entire procession.
